Top 5 Wednesday|Second Book is Best

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.”Stephen King (On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft)

Hi everyone,

A quick message before I begin with this week’s topic. I know I’m rather behind on T5W, but I’m determined to catch up and not miss a post.

If you’ve been following my blog and Social Media for the past month , you’ll know that I’ve started a new job, moved house, redecorated and got a new kitten. It’s been a hectic, yet enjoyable month and now that life is settling down I want to catch up with every post I had planned, rather than skipping ahead.

I hope this is okay, it does mean that I’m still going to be posting out of schedule for a few more weeks, but then again, you’re getting more blog posts in a short space of time, so it’s not all bad right?! 🙂

Speak soon,

ash x

Top 5 Wednesday (T5W) was created by the YouTubers Lainey – and Samantha – in 2013. I know I’m late to the party, but it’s better late than never eh? It’s a tag used by both YouTubers and Bloggers.

A new topic is chosen weekly and every Wednesday you upload a list of 5 books that are related to the chosen topic.

If you would like to get involved and join in, here is a link to the Goodreads group where each topic is published:

The T5W topic this week is Second Book is Best:

I’ll be honest, I struggled to think of five book series where, in my opinion, the second book was the best. Quite often the second book is my least favourite in a series. I’ve technically got 4 on my list rather than 5 as I’m not sure the last one really counts, but I added it as I didn’t want to leave the post with just 4 answers!

I chose the quote above today simply because I think it’s lovely. 🙂

1. The Two Towers – The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

I absolutely love all three books in the LOTR trilogy, but The Two Towers is definitely my favourite, mainly because Gollum is introduced and to me, it’s more action packed and fast paced compared to The Fellowship of the Ring. I do love Return of the King too though, that’s a close second!

2. The Reptile Room – A Series of Unfortunate Events

This is definitely my favourite in the series (I’ve only read 5/6 of the books however). I think the plot to this book is clever, especially regarding the snake venom, and Uncle Monty is by far my favourite character in the books!

3. The Vampire’s assistant – The Saga of Darren Shan

I’ve still not finished the entire series, it’s been on my TBR for years, I really should get around to it soon! It’s my favourite because you get to know all of the performers in Cirque Du Freak and some parts of the book are quite dark. If you know me, I love a good gory book, which Darren Shan never fails to deliver!

4. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – The Chronicles of Narnia (Harper Collins, Chronological Order)

I know that this is technically the first book that C. S. Lewis released in The Chronicles of Narnia series, but in chronological order, it’s the first in the series, so I’m counting it in this top 5. I enjoyed all of the series as a child, but there will always be something so lovely and magical about The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which is why it’s my favourite.

5. 50 Shades Darker – The Fifty Shades Trilogy

Okay, okay, I know. Please don’t judge me here. Before I begin, I just want to state that I have NOT read any of the 50 Shades trilogy at all, and to be honest don’t plan on reading them. I’m not bashing anyone that enjoyed them though, because I know many people did, but I don’t think they’d be my kind of books.

I have however seen the first two films. Although I didn’t particularly enjoy either of them, I did think the second film was better than the first, which is why I’ve included it in this post!
