How are we all doing? Hope you’re well!
Another end of the month, another monthly wrap up! I’m a little disappointed with the amount of books I read this month as I would have like to have read a little more.
The books I did read however I throughly enjoyed! If you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you’ll probably know that I rarely give out 5 star ratings to books. It has to be a book that absolutely blew me away. This month this happened a number of times and I discovered books that I adored!
Stick around to see what they were. 😊
37. Heartstream – Tom Pollock*
Thoughts: This was such an interesting and original read. If you’re a fan of the TV series Black Mirror, then this is definitely the book for you! Not only is this a brilliant book but I had an opportunity to get my copy signed by Tom Pollock at YALC and he’s so lovely too! This book kept me guessing until the very end and it was interesting to see the plot come together.
38. The Kingdom – Jess Rothenberg*
Thoughts: I loved this book so much, it was one that kept me up into the early hours of the morning reading. Again it’s such an original and clever idea and something that doesn’t seem too far from what could actually happen. I loved the characters and it was such an interesting concept. The book is told through various different means too, such as flashbacks, present time, trial manuscripts, interviews and photos – it made for an interesting read!
39. I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons – Kevin Hart
Thoughts: Overall I enjoyed this book but preferred the first half to the second. It felt like listening to a 12 hour comedy set which was great and I laughed out loud many times. The audiobook was narrated by Kevin Hart himself and had many ad-libs that were hilarious. It wasn’t my favourite book in the world, but it made for an enjoyable read.
40. The Originals – A. Bello*
Thoughts: This was a collection of short stories written by young writers and was lovely to read. Often we forget how talented children are at writing and it was nice to be reminded of this. Naturally I preferred some stories over others, but they were all original and engaging.
41. They Both Die at the End – Adam Silvera
Thoughts: Oh my word. What do I say about this book, how can I possibly sum up how it made me feel? This was the first Adam Silvera book I’ve read and I was absolutely blown away by it. The story was so unique and knowing that the both characters were going to die without seeing a spoiler really played on my mind the entire time. It was such a fantastic story and I loved both of the characters. It was heartbreaking but equally amazing and I would totally recommend reading it if you haven’t already!
42. Heartstopper: Vol 1 – Alice Oseman
Thoughts: Ah this graphic novel, it gave me aaaaaaall the feels. It’s absolutely beautiful and I loved it so much. I devoured it in one sitting and wanted to continue on with volume two immediately. I love all of the LGBTQIAP+ rep in the book and how honest it is. I loved the two main characters and the story was just adorable. The illustrations are brilliant too.
43. Heartstopper: Vol 2 – Alice Oseman
Thoughts: I also devoured this book in one sitting. I loved seeing how the character developed in from the first volume and become more accepting of themselves. Again this oozed LGBTQIAP+ rep and was equally as adorable as volume one. While I think vol one is still my favourite, this is a very close second and I can’t wait to read the third volume when it comes out.
*All of the books followed by an asterisk are ones I have been #gifted by either the publisher or author. All opinions are my own and are not influenced by receiving a free copy in any way.
I would have liked to have read a few more books this month, but 7 isn’t a bad amount. 😊
How many books did you read in July? Let me know in the comments.
