Hi everyone,
Here’s my April monthly book wrap up!
I did attempt to do the O.W.L.S Reading Challenge but forgot to read the final book so didn’t quite end up completing it, but I had great fun participating! The books I read for the O.W.L.S I’ll state in the list.
Hope you enjoy,
16. The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – Stuart Turton
Rating: ★★★★★
Thoughts: What. A. Book! This was an absolutely fantastic read that is reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s books, mixed with Cluedo and Groundhog Day. It will leave you guessing up until the very end and the plot is perfectly intricate, definitely one to read this year!
*counted towards O.W.L.S
17. Because We Are Bad: OCD and a Girl Lost in Thought – Lily Bailey*
Rating: ★★★★
Thoughts: This is a deeply moving book that discusses Lily Bailey’s life growing up with OCD. It’s compelling and also quite devastating to read at times and discusses how consuming this mental illness is. It will challenge your outlook of what OCD. I commend Lily for being so open and honest in this book.
*Counted towards O.W.L.S
18. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – J. K. Rowling
Rating: ★★★★
Thoughts: There’s nothing I can say about this book that hasn’t been said already. I definitely enjoyed this reread more than the previous times. It may be my second least favourite Harry Potter book, but I still absolutely love it!
*Counted towards O.W.L.S
19. Dear Evan Hansen – Val Emmich**
Rating: ★★
Thoughts: This book is deeply rooted in Evan’s anxiety and mental health and was one I was highly anticipated reading. It fell so flat for me and there were some major issues I had with the storyline and how it approaches the subject of mental health. It doesn’t seem to truly reflect the musical and the songs. It will be interesting to see the comparisons and differences when I see the show live in November.
*Counted towards O.W.L.S
20. My Back-To-Basics Business Bible – Neeta Oza*
Rating: ★★★★★
Thoughts: This is equally as good as Neeta’s first book, My Mini Micro Mindset Manual. It provides super helpful tips for budding entrepreneurs and for those who have been running their business for years. It includes many ideas to help you on the way to becoming successful in your future endeavours.
21. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Vol 1: The Crucible – Roberto Aguirre Sarcasa
Rating: ★★★★
Thoughts: Having watched the TV series, I wanted to give the comics a read and found them free on Kindle Unlimited. If you think the show is dark, then you need to read the comics. If you’re a fan of Riverdale too, there are many crossovers as it has the same writers. While some of the content is the same as the show, the show has veered in a different direction. Salem talks in the comics too, I wish he did on the show.
22. Thanos Rising: 1-5 Series – Jason Aaron
Rating: ★★★★
Thoughts: After seeing Endgame *insert all of the feels here* I really wanted to read into Thanos’s origin story. These comics were so dark and give more of an insight into his character and fascinating relationship with death. I’d definitely recommend them.
* All of the books followed by an asterisk are ones I have been #gifted by either the publisher or author. All opinions are my own and are not influenced by receiving a free copy in any way.
** I own an E-ARC of Dear Evan Hansen which was gifted to me, but I also bought a finished copy myself.
That’s everything I read this month! As you can see I’m trying to read more comic series, so if you know of any good ones then please let me know in the comments below! 😊

It is too bad that you didn’t enjoy Dear Evan Hansen. I am hoping to read it soon, so I will keep your thoughts in mind. But, I am glad to hear that you enjoyed The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. I would love to read that book as well!

If you’re looking for more comic series I’d definitely recommend Mockingbird – there are only two volumes but it’s EXCELLENT. Also, Mer-Corgis.

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle didn’t make it to my bookshelves because I have an odd attitude that the more popular a book is, the less I want to read it.

I’m exactly the same when it comes to popular books and it took me months to finally read it. I’ll be honest, I initially only read it to go to his event in Swansea Waterstones and not hear any spoilers, but as soon as I picked it up I didn’t want to put it down! It was so unique to anything I’ve read before and would really recommend putting the hype aside and giving it a go! 😊

I really wanted to read Dear Evan Hansen, it’s a shame that you didn’t enjoy it. I haven’t seen the show but I really like the songs. It’s sad to hear that it didn’t address the subject of mental health well.

It’s hard to explain in a few sentences how I felt about it, but will try to explain what I mean about the way it handles mental health when I write up the review. I think I just struggled to like Evan as a character and it’s tough to enjoy a book when the main character is problematic to you. I’d still recommend giving a read as your opinion may be completely different to mine though 😊 ah I love the songs too, they’re so powerful!

I’ll definitely keep a look out for your review then. I hopefully will get round to reading it soon!
